Sculpture Park Curatorial Advisor
Pt. Leo Estate’s consultant Sculpture Park curator Geoffrey Edwards’ contribution to the Australian gallery and museum sector is such that in 2015 he received a Museums Australia (Victoria) Lifetime Achievement Award. Edwards’has led an esteemed career, including time at the National Gallery of Victoria before being appointed the top position as the Director of the Geelong Gallery, a position he held for 15 years before retiring in 2016.
Career highlights include establishing an acclaimed acquisitions program, the record-breaking purchase of Eugene von Guerard’s colonial masterpiece View of Geelong (1856) from the legendary composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the landmark exhibition Land of the Golden Fleece–Arthur Streeton in the Western District.
Since leaving the Geelong Gallery, Edwards has been in demand as a freelance curator, lecturer and consultant to private, corporate and government bodies. Most recently, he worked on an outdoor exhibition of sculpture for the celebrated Barangaroo Reserve on Sydney Harbour, Sculpture by the Sea and Pt. Leo Estate Sculpture Park. His international and Australian affiliations include membership of the Curatorial Advisory Panel of Sculpture by the Sea.
