London-born Andrew Murch has worked his way through the ranks of the wine industry to take the role of head sommelier at Pt. Leo Estate Restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula.
Leaving decade-long career in design, Andrew Murch relocated from England to Melbourne in 2010 and completed his Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) levels two and three while working at St. Kilda institution Donovan’s. Murch’s first sommelier role was at Neil Perry’s Rockpool Bar & Grill, where he stayed for three years and was mentored by then beverage director, award-winning sommelier David Lawler. Murch’s career has most recently seen him working at iconic St. Kilda restaurant, Stokehouse as Senior Sommelier.
Murch says his ambition at Pt. Leo Estate will be to instal an excellent wine culture within the team.“By nurturing staff and encouraging them to explore when it comes to wine, you can watch them learn and grow with confidence and be a part of their journey,” he says. “That for me is very rewarding.”
