The 2020 vintage was a challenging one across Victoria, with vineyards facing a sun-starved summer and widespread smoke taint in some regions—fortunately, the Mornington Peninsula remained unaffected. In such a year, one might not expect a Chardonnay to show such youthful vibrancy and purity of fruit.

Careful winemaking, including minimal malolactic fermentation, has preserved freshness and lifted aromatics. The wine displays bright notes of green apple, citrus and honeysuckle, supported by fine acidity and a clean, energetic finish.

This release is a wonderful expression of Chardonnay’s adaptability and resilience.

Winemaking:

Hand-picked fruit was gently whole bunch pressed into a tank and settled overnight. It was then transferred into French oak barriques and puncheons (20% new, 80% second, third and fourth fill) and inoculated with a neutral yeast. From May until later winter the barrels were stirred occasionally until malolactic fermentation was completed in 60% of the wine. The wine was left on the lees until bottling.

13.5% Alcohol, 3.22pH, 6.4g/l TA

Tasting Note: Aromas of toasted nuts, peaches and nectarines with hints of citrus and subtle oak. A soft entry with flavours as suggested by the aromas. This builds as the wine travels through the palate with good length and a fine refreshing finish.
